We had a few things to pick up at Costco but when we headed off on the h1 traffic was backed up which was unusual for so early in the afternoon... so I bailed at the first exit and went to the Costco in town.
We never got to try gelato during our study on Italy so today was a good day for a treat! After we finished up it was time to head on home... all that traffic we saw earlier had backed aaaaaaaaaallll the way up into town and was just stopped dead. Our 5-10 minute drive lasted nearly two hours! A truck carrying a load of asphalt turned over and spilled all over the freeway earlier. (that traffic that was starting to back up when we left..)
We finally made it home in one piece, the crazy part of it all was that we made it all the way through the the mass of cars and crazies that were cutting and weaving in and out of lanes only to make it into our neighborhood just to nearly get mowed over by a truck blasting through the 3 way stop! My nerves were shot! We ate dinner and Dave made it home in time for me to attend the monthly homeschool meeting. One of the families in our group has a son that entered the Poetry Out Loud competition and won the Hawaii State Finals and is going to the mainland and compete for the National Finals in Washington DC next month. Here is Drew Jernigan reciting his poems for the group.
